Learning Lawn Care: Is the Ego Lawn Mower Any Good for a Complete Lawn Newbie?
This is my 9-month experience with the EGO 56V Brushless 52cm Self-Propelled Mower (LM2135E-SP). It's a review of sorts, but more about sharing my adventures as a lawn novice learning the ropes of both lawn care and the new Ego Mower. Why you ask? Well, last year we fired the gardener who killed our old lawn and we couldn't find a replacement. So, when we got 350 square metres of new Matilda Buffalo turf laid I found myself taking over gardening and lawn mowing duties. However, I needed a lawn mower, and had never gardened or mowed much before. @Egopowerplus seemed like a good choice for my needs, so I coughed up and got cracking. How hard can it be?!

Try This Instead: Gerni 15m Drain & Tube Cleaner

About a year ago we had the plumber move a drain as the low point in the concrete slab had shifted over 50 years. However, the new drain has clogged up with mud and leaves and I was about to call them back when I found this Gerni pipe cleaner attachment for my pressure washer. The plumber call out would have been $300, this cost me less than $50. I was honestly sceptical if it would be able to ...

    Great vid, and I love my EGO mower. Second season here in the states and going great. I can cut my ~.4 acre yard, front and back, on a single charge with 2 bars left (I have the same battery). This thing is light, but strong, and 10dB quieter than the neighbors gas mower. No need to use the self-propelled mode when going down hill, even slightly. I rarely use it on the level ground as well, perhaps just to get it started moving. Pointer: Don't always mow in the same direction. Change up the pattern or at least go clockwise one cut and counter-clockwise on the next. I usually mow in parallel strips, with a little different angle each time.

    You could have tested/compared the sanding sealers build vs varnish which is what I am looking for, you could also have used shellac in the comparative analysis and not the pva glue which a pro would never use, the good thing about shellac is that it sticks to anything and anything sticks to shellac, so for refinishing older finishes is excels and prevents laminating. Oil stains are a lot less likely to blotch as well, and bitumen thinned with turps is black japan and really adds a wonderful bronzy tint used thinly over a finish but needs to be sealed with a non oil based sealer like shellac prior to using oil varnish.

    • @FixitFingers
      @FixitFingers 4 дні тому

      Argh now see you used the 'pro' word... I am very far from that, just testing my own personal needs ;) The PVA idea came from woodturner friends who use it to seal endgrain and help slow the drying process. I've not used shellac but have heard many good things. It makes me wonder why it has fallen out of favour in modern making.... Im guessing the cost? That would be a good comparison video, I'll keep it in mind as a follow up if I find the time.

    22:48 Don't you mean Father in lawn? ;-) I got myself a really good deal on a Ryobi mower this winter and I really like it so far. It takes a bit longer to mow the lawn than with my gas powered Stiga but it is a lot nicer to work with. I have done some remodeling of my garden the past year and I do own a Stiga robo mower but I haven't installed it yet, and when I finally get around to doing so the gas mower will be way overkill to cut a small section next to the driveway that the robot wont reach. So a battery powered one seems like a better option. Also if there happens to be any kind of problem with the robot the Ryobi is big enough to cut the entire lawn. Keep the videos coming, I really enjoy your content. Cheers from Sweden.

    • @FixitFingers
      @FixitFingers 25 днів тому

      Cheers mate! Yes I've heard the Ryobi is perfectly fine for most people's smaller lawns these days. Light, cheap, and can handle the little patches with ease. I've only used my dad's old Victa petrol mower. It's heavy, fussy, hard to start and 2 stroke so is loud and stinky. Ego are apparently about to release "the world's most powerful mower". Big claim... will be interesting to see it.

    Question - Will the Kreg KMA3700 Accu-Cut work with the small RYOBI 18-Volt Cordless 5.5 inch Circular Saw? Will the small saw fit on the sled?

    • @FixitFingers

      Can't say I've tried it, but most likely it will. Kreg should have a list on their website, but I'd be very surprised if that very popular saw didn't work.

    How do you fix dry fire

    • @FixitFingers
      @FixitFingers 27 днів тому

      On this guy, honestly I've never had the issue as this model has dry-fire protect. If you run out of brads or load them incorrectly it simply wont go off. It has also never jammed but I believe the head can be removed to clear it :)

  • @b3owu1f
    @b3owu1f 28 днів тому

    So if you use a metal L square.. I assume the machine must be off so that you dont trip the brake? I did read that it can cut through nails/staples without triggering.. I hope that's true though I have never cut thru nails with any saw. But IF it should happen I would hate to toss $200+ for the blade and brake system. But using the SETUP metal thingys (the ones that come on multiple mm/inch heights to adjust the height of saw).. not sure if brake system only works/activates IF the blade is turning? I'd hate to think you could be using a long metal ruler or something else, accidentally touch blade and have it trip the brake.

    • @FixitFingers
      @FixitFingers 28 днів тому

      Yep so the break system is only live while the blade is moving. So you can use metal measuring tool to setup no worries as it doesn't kick in until you pull the big go button. However, it stays live after you turn it off for a few seconds during wind down so you need to let it come to a complete stop (there are lights next to the switch to tell you if the brake system is live). I've not hit any metal yet, but yes, you _should_ be able to go through staples and small nails as if they are completely surrounded by wood, they won't ground and don't have enough mass to trigger the current switch. If you are cutting metal or you are very suspicious of the wood you are cutting, you can temporarily override the brake so it wont fire off. Same with wet wood, before you cut, you can hold the wood up against the stationary blade. If the brake light starts flashing, it is wet enough to conduct and you need to let it dry or put it in override mode :) Hope that helps.

      @@FixitFingers Oh that is cool.. I thought I saw someone do that somewhere.. maybe you did.. cant remember. But I did see some various lights. I thought maybe you had to bypass then cut and notice if the lights were going off. But very cool you can do it while blade is stopped and it will tell you. I assume then while stopped.. if you touch it with metal or your fingers it will show the light that indicates it would trip if it were spinning

    • @FixitFingers
      @FixitFingers 27 днів тому

      @@b3owu1f exactly! I should have filmed that. Yes, if you touch the blade while stationary the lights go bonkers and start flashing super fast. It also wont start I believe if the lights are already flashing

      Sure is! images.app.goo.gl/1AMWurQErAW47nE16 ... sorta 😉Our big box store is called Bunnings, but their logo is a giant red hammer so the Bluey people called it Hammerbarn. As a lot of Aussie Makers who use it extensively are also dads, it has become a bit of a thing to use the made up version in videos. However, recently they actually *did* in real life rebrand a few stores as Hammerbarns... brilliant marketing 🤣🔨

    This is true especially if you cut a full length of plywood. Its not accurate by 1 millimeter. I think the flaw here is the main sled theres a ton of movement. I use a thin maskin tape underneath the sled to eliminate the movement
